NOVEMBER 2009 Triathlon News
TIMING TO RACE
Pacing yourself for the season ahead is something
that takes some thought and planning. Seeing one
of the first big Australian events in the Noosa
triathlon is run at the beginning of November,
it has already meant quite a few months of solid
work and preparation. The first half of the Australian
Season winds down towards Christmas so some forced
r and r from the races for 3-4 weeks and going
back to some based building / aerobic training
is a good way to refresh and let the body and
mind recover and be ready to tackle the races
come late January and build your form till the
end of the season. Working in an easier week for
your training every 3-4 weeks is also a must to
allow the body to adapt to the progressing training
load. Incorporation of regular stretching and
or yoga is a great way to stay on top of the niggles
also. It's the combination of doing all the little
things that goes a long way is getting you to
your best on race day.

OCTOBER 2009 Triathlon News
MULTISPORT IS A LIFESTYLE
Triathlon and Multisport is still a young sport
when compared to more established and traditional
sports. It was only first thrown together in southern
California in the mid 1970's. From these beginnings
the sport has grown to become the 'it' sport to
do and shows no sign in slowing down. The Noosa
Triathlon (Australia's biggest) filed this year
in a record 4 days and recently let it be known
that the waiting list for a spot had grown to
2500 individuals! Ironman too continues to grow
across the globe with many in North America and
Europe filling 12 months in advance and within
hours of entries opening. This sport is a lifestyle
and the positive influences it brings to our lives
keep the fires buring within. I know in my own
25 years in the sport the experiences have been
ones to remember and the simple combination of
swim, bike and run are the perfect combination
to help keep the body and mind in shape to help
us tackle whatever life throws at us.

SEPTEMBER 2009 Triathlon News
READY FOR A BIG SEASON
Only a handful of weeks to the ITU Triathlon World
Championships on the Gold Coast. There is something
for everyone with the ITU World Aquathlon Champs
open to all and an open sprint race also on the
race program. There is also opportunities to volunteer
over the race week also if you want to be part
of the show. At Noosa, the club held a race recently
over the 1/30/8 distance and had over 100 participants
- the biggest Noosa tri club race yet. The club
put on a great event and those that braved the
winter chill got a solid hit out of off season
racing. The next club event in Noosa in August
has some 150 registered and is full now, making
it certainly one of the to do events in South
East QLD in the lead up to the saeson. Getting
your race schedule for the upcoming season ready
should be now be happening so training can be
planned around your events. Keep working on your
weakness/s in training and remember that doing
a race is the best the best form of training there
is.

JULY 2009 Triathlon News
PREPARING FOR THE SEASON
The season is only a matter of months away. Now
is the time to be planning for the next six months
and start to look at the race calendars and work
your training towards optimal performance in a
select few events over the course of the season.
I say a few as it is not practical to try and
peak for every race you attempt. Dividing your
planned events into categories like A B and C
races will allow for a more balanced season. The
C races can be total train through events. That
is, still do your normal Saturday training and
not back off in the days leading in. The B races
can still be semi train through but a one day
ease up to give you a bit of a kick on race day
so you can perform at a reasonable level. The
A's are your peak events - over the season you
may only look at doing two or three A events.
The Aussie season of course is a long one - stretching
from September to May so pacing oneself in training
and racing is crucial to keep it all together.
Having the races in these categories can assist
in keeping your season together to get optimal
results some the business end of your season.

JUNE 2009 Triathlon News
Planning your years training and racing is an
important step in ensuring ongoing progress and
helps your motivation by changing the ways your
body goes through the training process. Dividing
the year into phases of base, strength, race pace
and recovery and doing this several times over
twelve months is necessary to keep improving.
Working out how many hours you have to devote
to training over a year and each week is also
important. Remember that keeping some balance
your life and limiting your training with a cap
will go a long way to keep improving your results
each season. It's what you do with those training
hours that is the important thing - not to see
how many hours you can fit into the week.
